The Dawson Academy Announces New Curriculum
Lectures and Hands-on Courses Available for Every Member of the Dental Team

St. Petersburg, FL – April 30, 2008 – The Dawson Academy today announced its newly revised curriculum which includes a variety of lectures and hands-on courses.
 
The classes cover a variety of dental topics pertaining to dentists, hygienists, laboratory technicians and assistants, and will be taught by The Dawson Academy’s faculty members. All classes fall under The Dawson Academy’s new four learning tracks—Core Curriculum, Advanced Restorative Electives, Dental Medical Track and Practice and Professional Growth. All classes teach the principles and skills necessary for the successful practice of complete, quality, predictable dentistry with primary concentrations in occlusion, the temporomandibular joints and comprehensive restorative dentistry.
 

Core Curriculum

Dentists finishing The Dawson Academy Core Curriculum will have a complete understanding of the optimum oral health and dysfunction of each part of the masticatory system as well as the supporting structures. Additionally, students will have a profound understanding of contemporary esthetic procedures providing their patients with beautiful, functionally correct dentistry. Treatment decisions will be based upon a standardized comprehensive examination. Through a programmed approach to treatment planning, graduates of the core curriculum will know when reshaping, repositioning, restorative and/or orthognathic surgery is the correct option.

Advanced Restorative Electives

Beyond the foundational clinical competencies developed in the Core Curriculum, the courses in this track are designed to develop the confidence and ability to successfully treat major restorative cases. Advanced diagnosis and treatment planning, especially sequencing complex cases, is the hallmark of the programming in the Advanced Restorative track. The specific how-tos of the most current materials, techniques and technologies are woven throughout these advanced offerings, including three courses specifically for laboratory technicians.

Elements of Design – Natural Posterior (Technician Course)

Dental Medicine Track


Dr. Peter Dawson has long advocated the need for dentists to recognize their unique role as Physicians of the Masticatory System. Dentistry is the only medical specialty with full responsibility for the head and neck, and thus the associated conditions which can develop in this region. Students pursuing studies in the Dental Medicine Track will expand their ability to diagnose and treat head, neck, and orofacial pain and sleep disorders. A multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of these problems will be presented. 

The courses being offered are:

Temporomandibular Disorder: Current Concepts
Head & Neck Anatomy with Dissection
Occlusal Splint Therapy: Rationale, Indications and Fabrication Workshop
 

Practice & Professional Growth Track

In order to reach its full potential, the entire dental team needs to understand and support the mission of the practice. In this track, seminars and workshops provide clinical and behavioral education for all team members as well as training in entrepreneurship and leadership. The Dawson Academy’s growing offerings in this track are designed to develop the non-clinical competencies that are often the missing link in the dental practice. Because these programs are part of the integrated curriculum, the messages are consistent with the clinical teachings and support the systems and processes needed to implement complete dentistry.
